Woo Hoo! It’s finally here.
Energetically, this is the biggest week of the year, and arguably of many years. On Monday we had the last of 7 exact Uranus-Pluto squares; this has been the astrological headliner for years now. More on this below.
But to make this an even Bigger Show, today is not just the Equinox (vernal in the northern hemisphere) which every year marks the beginning of spring and the new astrological year, it’s also a New Moon/total Solar Eclipse. Eclipses are Big News (4 or 5 happen per year). Total Eclipses are Really Big News. When such a thing happens in the very final degree of the outgoing astro year, just hours before the Vernal Equinox (an incalculably rare occurance), it’s HUGE NEWS.
On days like this I wish I owned a trashy tabloid so that I could splash neologisms like “ECLINOX” all over the front page. (There I go, getting all word-nerdy on you. But it really is perfect, don’t you think?)
The Uranus-Pluto squares (that’s an uncomfortable, “tight” aspect between these 2 slow-moving outer planets) started in 2012, but we were already feeling them as of 2008 which was a big year of spiritual awakening for me personally: I was wowed by my first-ever Akashic Records channeling (so much so that I went back for another within the month!), did a deep dive into Tarot, and had my first tingle of “Spidey sense” about crystals.
Let’s unpack this a little: Pluto, as you may know is the Roman version of Hades: the ruler of the Underworld. Astrologically, Pluto stands for things like the Oligarchy; old and hidden power that isn’t easily undone. In today’s world, we might think of Pluto as the Establishment, especially its shadowy back channels (think: super-secret US intelligence agencies spying on US citizens for reasons that are as yet unclear). This planet moves veeerrrrryyyyy slowly: once around the Sun takes 248 of our years. In other words: this planet is NOT down with change: it’s status quo or bust for Pluto!
Uranus, on the other hand, is known as the Great Awakener; it governs Aquarius. Its energy is like the bolt of lightning that erupts when 2 opposing energies resist each other with equal force until, suddenly, the irresolvable resolves itself–CRACK! It’s explosive and things get fried in the process, but it also clears the air. The situation shifts from one state to another in the blink of an eye. Uranus is the enemy, the debunker, of status quo. This planet is the champion of radical change. Think: innovation, reversal, “the future is now.”
Essentially what’s going on with the Pluto-Uranus square is that Mr. Old Ways is arm-wrestling with Mr. Social + Technological Change. Put another way: revolution is in the offing. The last time these 2 planets got together was during the conjunctions (there were 3 that time, not 7) in 1965 and ’66. These aspects catalyzed great social change all over the world: in the US we had the Civil Rights movement, Women’s Liberation, the Vietnam War protests, the Summer of Love. In China there was even a Cultural Revolution.
(You may be wondering why the peak of these revolutionary energies was around 1968-69 while the aspects themselves occurred 3 years earlier. Well, so was I; I owe of debt of gratitude to Rick Levine for explaining how the concept of the lag of seasons also applies to the planets. The day when the Sun is in the sky the longest is the Summer Solstice, sometime around the 20th of June in the northern hemisphere, but contrary to expectations, it’s not the hottest day of the year. Annual temperatures tend to peak near the end of July or in August, and same with winter: the Winter Solstice is around the 21st of December, but the coldest temps aren’t recorded until January or February, or halfway to the Equinox. Thus, while the planets lined up in ’65-’66, the “heat” from these events didn’t mature for 3 years or more.)
That means that we might not see the full effect of this series of 7 (such a mystical number!) squares until closer to the year 2020, though in the Records I’ve been seeing 2017 as the year when BIG shifts occur. And they already are occurring, of course. The Arab Spring was in 2011, even before the first square was exact, but because these planets move so slowly, they were nearly exact the year before, and change was already underway.
So, that was Monday’s Big Event.
Today’s Big Event is a double-feature, starting with the Total Solar Eclipse that occurs at the New Moon (well, 10 minutes later) at 5:36 and 5:46 am EDT and then the vernal equinox at 6:45 pm EDT.
New Moons mark the beginning of a lunar cycle, and as such have great “start-up” energies. Start something new at the New Moon; it’s the most potent time to do so. Today’s new moon is especially potent because it accompanies a Total Solar Eclipse: the most powerful of astrological events, which in ancient cultures often meant “the King Must Die.”
And if that weren’t enough, this New Moon/Total Solar Eclipse happens in the very last degree (the last 2 minutes of the last degree) of the zodiac: 29˚27’ Pisces, aka the Omega Point. (DUH duhm…) Pisces, the final sign of the zodiac is a culmination of all the others: all the wisdom of the year gathers in this sign, especially at the “bitter end,” which isn’t bitter at all—it’s one with All That Is.
Because this most potent of all heavenly events happens at the Omega Point, we find ourselves today at the culmination of an era. Which is of course also the beginning of one, 13 hours later at the Alpha Point. It’s no accident that this incalculably rare and potent event happens mere days after the culminating Uranus-Pluto square (which is just a few seconds off of exact).
The choice before you: in the coming era, are you going to throw your lot in with the Old Guard or with the Awakened Innovators?
There’s no doubt about it: today is the day you choose. The old adage, “Today is the first day of the rest of your life” has never been more true. Alpha and Omega meet powerfully today. We are entering a new cycle—launched into one really, straight through a portal that lasts the entire month until the Full Moon in Libra.
This portal, which opens at the culmination point of Psychic Pisces, is going to be blowing the doors off of everyone’s intuitions. And it’s a good thing, too: at this moment when we are called to finally step into who we REALLY are, it’s handy to have greater access to universal information.
